Lilyisthatyou West Hollywood Concert reviews
Shinedown put on an incredible performance!
Overall, the light show was great and effects were dead on for all three bands. I'll try to go over each band's individual performance so this review can help fans that only care about a specific band. The show was very good and I would happily attend another if they come near my area again.
Shinedown was outstanding. Their preparation was undeniably good and their show was well polished. Every song was played so accurately that it sounded just like the album, maybe even better when you account for the intangibles of a live performance. Brent Smith is a very talented singer and the entire band had an air of honest accomplishment in their performance - they put on a great show and everyone in the arena knew it. Shinedown's performance was everything I expected and more.
Lilyisthatyou was a very good show despite the controversial departure of their lead singer. Moving on to vocals, I'm sure a lot of people are curious what it's like without Adam. The replacement singer, Matt Walst, sounded like Adam in the low ranges but you knew it wasn't the same once he hit the higher notes. Regardless, I have to hand it to Matt Walst for having a GREAT persona live and facing the pressure of trying to fill Adam's shoes. He's got my respect for taking on the enormous challenge. Their guitarist Barry Stock was fantastic and really blew open the show for them. The guest performance they threw in their toward the end of their set was awesome too! Most importantly, kudos to the band for honoring their commitment to this tour despite losing the lead singer. That was a real stand up thing to do and I'm sure thousands of fans appreciate the gesture. Playing an extended set was an added bonus.
I should give fair warning that POD, live, is more of a thrash band when performing their arguably lighter hits. If you like the heavier live sound, you'll be happy. If you like them for their smoother songs like "Goodbye For Now" or "Youth of the Nation" the performance may leave a little to be desired. Again, that comes down to personal preference, not the abilities of the artist, so don't take that as knocking the band - I understand they're billed as metal/nu-metal and simply want to convey that you may hear a heavier sound than what you're expecting. My only real gripe is that Sonny would go silent and let the crowd sing the booming lines in the chorus of songs like "Alive" rather than doing it himself, which in my opinion is where he really sounds the best on the albums. Again, that's more of a personal preference thing so take that with a grain of salt. His show, his choice. The guitarist did a great job of replicating the quick riffs heard on the albums and the drummer was great. Wuv really stood out from the rest of the group on drums.
Thank you for the great experience and I hope to see more live performances in the future!
